Alejandro Alonso Dregi is a lawyer and a member of the Bar Associations in Madrid, Paris and Barcelona. Before joining Ventura Garcés López-Ibor as a Partner, Alejandro was a Partner at Dentons.
He has more than 25 years’ experience of advising both Spanish and international businesses on commercial matters and merger and acquisition operations.
He has extensive knowledge of specific business sectors, including the operation and management of Hospitals and Senior Citizen Care Facilities, Large Retail Chain Stores in their different manifestations, Perfumes, Cosmetics and Luxury Goods and their related industries, the Hotel sector (including hotel development and construction), and Franchising and Distribution operations in a range of business segments, with particular emphasis on franchising in the restaurant, fashion and optical goods sectors.
In addition to providing commercial advice to his clients, Alejandro also acts to defend their interests in the Ordinary Courts in legal actions with a substantial commercial content.
Alejandro also specialises in the area of commercial arbitration. He not only advises individual parties but has also been appointed arbitrator in a large number of domestic and international arbitration processes. He was Chairman of the Madrid Bar Association’s Court of Arbitration Committee until January 2018, and in addition to teaching on the Master’s Course in Arbitration Training at the Centre for Mediation and Arbitration (CIAMEN), in collaboration with the Chartered Institute, he has recently been appointed a Member of CIAMEN’s Advisory Board.
He was a Member of the Governing Board of the Madrid Bar Association until December 2017.
He is Secretary General and Vice President of the French-Spanish Chamber of Commerce and a leading lawyer in the area of French-Spanish law.
In addition to practising law, Alejandro also teaches. He is professor of commercial law on the Master’s Programme in Legal Practice at Instituto de Estudios Bursátiles (IEB), and he is also a Member of the Board of Advisors to the Academic Council for the Master’s Degree in European Law at Carlos III University in Madrid.
