Isabel Mateu

Isabel Mateu is a partner in the Litigation Department at Ventura Garcés López-Ibor. She had previously worked for 10 years as a litigation lawyer at Bufete Mullerat, after a term as court agent at the Joaniquet-Tamburini Court Agents’ Office, where she was responsible for several first instance courts over a period of 2 years.

Isabel has extensive experience as an expert in litigation, advising Spanish and international companies during both pre-trial and trial phases. She particularly specialises in civil liability, defective goods, national and intra-European debt recovery, the enforcement of foreign judgements, contractual conflicts (distribution, agency, franchising, etc.) and insurance disputes, among other matters.

Isabel Mateu regularly takes part in seminars and conferences, and gives lectures on litigation, with reference to intra-European and international litigation, working with a number of organisations and universities (ICAB, ISDE, Escuela Judicial, UIC, among others).

She was appointed an expert by the Council of the Bars and Law Societies of the European Union (CCBE) in relation to the Green Paper on European payment order procedure and measures to simplify and speed up small claims litigation. She also represented the CCBE at a Conference on Practical Obstacles in Cross-Border Litigation organised by the Dutch presidency of the EU.

She has been a Faculty Member for the Masters in Litigation, organised by Instituto Superior de Derecho y Empresa (ISDE). She has also given classes at the Escuela Judicial and at Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), as well as courses in international litigation at ICAB.
